Vorsak Bou
Acting Programme Manager

Vorsak Bou (Vorsak) received his bachelor degree in the field of Accounting from the National University of Management (NUM), Cambodia in 2001 and spent the following two years with the Pestalozzi Children Foundation, Cambodia program as an Administrative Assistant. Then he worked as administrative manager for WATHNAKPHEAP, a Cambodian NGO that supports children and youth at risk.

Vorsak also has a bachelor degree in the field of Geography and Psychology from the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), Cambodia. He used to work as short term researcher and consultant with several NGOs.

Currently Vorsak is continuing his master degree studies in the field of Management at the Royal University of Law and Economics. BirdLife International in Indochina - Cambodia Programme Office employed him as Finance Officer/ Administrative Officer in August 2005.

In July 27, 2006, he was appointed as Acting Programme Manager.

Kim Hout Seng
Programme Officer

Mr. Kim Hout Seng completed a preliminary degree in Forestry and Wildlife Science at the National School of Agriculture in 1994 and soon after started working in the Wildlife Protection Office of the Forestry Administration (Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries). Kim Hout is continuing his studies on the weekends and anticipates receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Forestry and Wildlife Science in December 2004.

During his work at the Forestry Administration, he has attended a number of national and international workshops related to wildlife and wetlands, conducted many wildlife and wetland surveys in the country and worked in Tamao Zoological Garden and Rescue Center. Kim Hout cooperated directly with the Inventory and Management of Cambodian Wetlands Project funded by Danida in September 1997- April 2001, and with the Wildlife Conservation Society from June 2001- June 2003 regarding BirdLife International's Important Bird Areas Project (Danida funded) in Cambodia.

He has since July 2003 been seconded to work with the Cambodia Program Office as a Project Officer responsible for managing and conserving the Important Bird Areas in the southern Cambodia. To date, he has been responsible for establishing Site Support Groups in Boeung Prek Lapouv IBA and Kampong Trach IBA, southeast of Phnom Penh. These projects are part of a cooperative Memorandum of Understanding between BirdLife International and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

In July 27, 2006, he was appointed as Programme Officer.

Prach Pich Phirun
Project Officer

Phirun recently joined BirdLife in May as a Project Officer for Western Siem Pang IBA. Phirun graduated with a Masters degree in Agricultural Science from Kazakhstan Institute of Agriculture in 1994. Before working for BirdLife, he worked as the Deputy Chief of Battambang Forestry Cantonment and as a Counterpart Field coordinator for WWF and FFI.

Thara Tan
Assistant Project Officer

Mr. Thara Tan completed his diploma level II in Forestry and Wildlife Science at the National School of Agriculture in 1994 and thereafter started working in the Legislation and Litigation Office of the Forestry Administration, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.

His work in the Legislation and Litigation Office aimed at controlling illegal logging and illegal wildlife trade activities throughout the country. In 2000-2002, he worked in the Wildlife and Forest Research Institute consulting with companies conducting forest activities. In 2003 he shifted to the Wildlife Protection Office where he has been working since.

In October 2003, he was seconded from the Wildlife Protection Office to begin work with the BirdLife International - Cambodia Program Office as an Assistant Project Officer. He works directly with the Project Officer who is responsible for Cambodia's southern IBA conservation activities. This includes activities such as field work to identify bird species, collecting socio-economic data, and working with local communities to help with biodiversity conservation.

Thara is currently studying at Build Bright University to receive a Bachelor's Degree of English Literature in 2005.

Phally Sok
Driver


Mr. Phally Sok began work in November 2003 as the driver for the Cambodia Programme Office.

Phally has worked for many years as a driver for a variety of organisations ranging from the Hungarian Embassy to the United Nations to driving for private individuals. Previous to serving this role, Phally worked as a machinist at a Ship Enterprise Company.

Since working here, he has proved himself an invaluable addition to the Cambodia Programme and always someone who can be relied and depended upon.
